The Healing Power of Horses

Horses have been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
Long before I understood healing, energy, nervous system regulation, or personal growth, I was drawn to horses. There was something about them that felt magnetic. As a child, I was completely fascinated by them. Any opportunity to be around horses, I took it.
I spent countless hours helping out at stables, grooming, mucking out, riding, and simply being in their presence. Looking back now, I realise it was never really about riding.
It was about how they made me feel.
As a teenager, horses became my therapy, although I didn’t recognise it as that at the time.
Whenever life felt overwhelming, I would find myself at the yard. The moment I arrived, something shifted. My mind became quieter. My body softened. The noise of the world seemed to fade into the background.
At the time, I thought I simply loved horses.
Now I understand they were givving me something I couldnt put into words back then.
They were a place where I felt calm.
A place where I felt connected.
A place where I could simply be myself.
Long before I understood nervous system regulation, healing, or emotional wellbeing, horses were already offering me all of those things.
They became a constant throughout my life. A quiet place to return to whenever I needed grounding, connection, peace, or simply a break from the noise of the world.
Looking back now, I can see that some of my greatest lessons didn’t come through words at all. They came through time spent beside these incredible animals. Through trust, patience, presence, partnership, and a connection that often felt deeper than anything that could be explained.
Even today, after a lifetime around horses, they continue to teach me, guide me, and remind me of what truly matters.

One thing that particularly caught my attention was learning about the horse’s heart.
A horse’s heart is significantly larger than our own and creates a powerful electromagnetic field around the body. Research has explored how horses and humans can influence one another’s heart rhythms when spending time together, a process often referred to as co-regulation.
Horses are also incredibly sensitive animals. As prey animals, their survival depends on constantly reading the world around them. They notice subtle changes in body language, tension, emotion, and behaviour long before words are ever spoken.
Every time I think I understand horses a little more, they show me something new.
For all that we understand about them, there is still so much we don’t.
And perhaps that’s part of their medicine.
A balance between what can be measured and what can only be experienced.
Between what we know and what we simply feel.
For me, that quiet mystery is part of what makes horses so special.
One of the most beautiful things I’ve witnessed over the years is the way horses respond to healing work.
Whether it’s sound healing, energy healing, bodywork, or simply holding space, I have often noticed horses becoming deeply engaged in the process.
I’ve watched them move closer.
Lower their heads.
Yawn.
Lick and chew.
Soften through their bodies.
Or simply choose to stay nearby.
Their responses are often subtle, yet incredibly powerful to witness.
What continues to amaze me is how receptive they can be to sound, vibration, touch, and energy. There have been countless moments where I’ve observed a shift in a horse before anything has even been said aloud.
While I can’t fully explain what they are experiencing, I have seen enough over the years to trust what I am witnessing.
To me, horses are not only beautiful receivers of healing work, but often feel like amplifiers of it too.
There is something incredibly special about sharing a space with an animal that is so attuned to the world around them.
Every experience leaves me with a deeper respect for their sensitivity, their wisdom, and the role they continue to play in my own work.
What makes this work so meaningful to me is that I now get to share something that has shaped my own life so deeply.
To bring together horses, healing, nature, and connection in a way that supports others feels incredibly aligned with who I am and the path I’ve walked myself.
There is something special about witnessing a person connect with a horse.
Not through words or instruction.
But through presence.
Through trust.
Through a moment that feels real.
The horses continue to teach me every day, and I have no doubt they will continue to do so for the rest of my life.
What once began as a childhood love has become part of my purpose.
And that feels like coming home.
